Jakob Strasser
Jakob Strasser (born June 3, 1896 in Benken , Canton of Zurich, † April 12, 1978 in Rheinfelden , Canton of Aargau) was a Swiss painter .
Life
Jakob Strasser grew up in Rheinfelden in the Aargau. He attended the schools in Rheinfelden and completed an apprenticeship as a flat painter . During his two and a half year apprenticeship, he attended drawing and painting courses at the Rheinfelden craft school with Paul Widmer. From 1914 to 1919 he attended the general trade school in Basel (School of Applied Arts) and courses with Arnold Fiechter and Georg Albrecht Mayer (1875–1952). In the 1920s, Jakob Strasser went on study trips to Italy. He was a lifelong friend of Adolf Glatt .
The entrepreneur Adolph Roniger and his wife Bertha Charlotte née Hürlimann (1888–1931) supported Strasser financially in the design and the later realization of the four wall paintings of the abdication hall at the Waldfriedhof Rheinfelden .
Strasser's work includes figurative compositions, still lifes and landscapes from the area around Rheinfelden, painted in oil, as watercolor , as woodcut and printed. Its main theme is everyday life in the small town with scenes that show life, the people and their surroundings. At a ripe old age, Jakob Strasser also worked as an exhibition maker. He curated exhibitions by contemporaries in the Rheinfeld "Kurbunnen". Strasser was an honorary citizen of Rheinfelden.
Jakob Strasser-Kalenbach's tombstone is on display in the tombstone museum of Waldfriedhof Rheinfelden .

Strasser's works can be found in the Aargauer Kunsthaus Aarau, the public art collection Basel , Kunstkredit Basel-Stadt , Basler Kunstverein, the city of Rheinfelden and the Fricktaler Museum Rheinfelden. In Rheinfelden there is also various art in construction:
- Mother and Child , Entombment , Resurrection , St. Martin ; four murals in the abdication chapel of the Waldfriedhof Rheinfelden (1932)
- Spring and summer ; Murals in Keimscher mineral paint in the entrance pavilion of the Rheinfelder Kurbunnens, Rheinfelden (1936, pavilion demolished 1979)
- Adolescence ; Fresco in the Schützenmatt schoolhouse (then: district schoolhouse), Rheinfelden (1954)
- Swedish troops besieging Rheinfelden , mural on a building facade in Diagon Alley, Rheinfelden (1962)
