Adolf Glatt (born September 3, 1899 in Schopfheim , † November 12, 1984 in Basel ) was a Swiss sculptor and painter .

life and work

Adolf Glatt grew up as the son of a sculptor in Rheinfelden. After finishing school, he completed an apprenticeship as a sculptor in St. Gallen and completed his training at the Basel School of Applied Arts under the sculptor Otto Meyer and the painter Hermann Meyer (1878–1961). After completing his training at the trade school, he made the first portrait busts, animal sculptures and statues for tombs.

During the First World War he was drafted and taken prisoner by the Americans. These experiences burdened him for a long time. It was only when he moved to Basel that he was gradually able to overcome the crisis. In 1945 he married Johanna Kohler and devoted himself to painting. He mainly created landscapes and still lifes in watercolor. Glass pictures and concrete windows were added in the 1960s. He was a lifelong friend of Jakob Strasser .

In 1961 the painter Fritz Ryser (1910–1990) created a portrait of Glatt.
