Jakob Wickart

Jakob Wickart (* 1609/10; † March 6, 1684 in Zug ) was a Swiss governor and glass painter .

Live and act

Wickart was Catholic and came from Zug. He was the son of Maria Villiger and Jakob Wickart. He was half-brother of Wolfgang Wickart . He was married to Eva Widmer (daughter of Michael Widmer) and Ursula Bengg (daughter of the watchmaker and councilor Paul Bengg). After training in Constance, he worked as a glass painter; he was also the host . In 1638 he became a captain in foreign services. From 1642 to 1643 he was Vogt von Cham ZG . From 1654 to 1656 he was federal governor in Thurgau . From 1674 to 1684 he was councilor of Zug. In the 1st Villmerger War in 1656, Wickart was held in captivity by the Reformed towns for almost nine weeks, during which time he is said to have been mentally deranged at times. In 1662 he received compensation from all the ruling places in Thurgau.
