Jacob ben Jakar
Jakob ben Jakar († 1064 in Mainz ) came from Mainz and was head of the yeshiva in Worms around 1060 .
He first studied with Gerschom ben Jehuda in Mainz and Magenza and then worked there as a teacher alongside Eliezer ben Isaak ben Josua (the great) from Worms. From there he went to Worms. Rashi of Troyes was one of his students there . That he also led the yeshiva in Paris was represented in the older literature. But there is no evidence of this.
It is said that he was regarded as an authority on matters relating to halacha and literature.
His tombstone, walled up as a spoil , was found in 1922 in the former Mainz city fortifications.
