Jakober parish fair
The Jakober fair held annually in late July in the vicinity of the Church of St. Jacob in the Jakober suburb of Augsburg and is organized by the parishes of the district and the district association. Originally, the parish fair was a folk festival with various rides and market stalls as well as a marquee that was set up on the premises of the Augusta brewery since the post-war period . In 2015, the change to a district and church festival began with a varied program and without rides and beer tents.
history
In the area of today's St. Jakob church there was a simple wooden chapel as early as the early Middle Ages. This place was used by the pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela as a meeting point and overnight accommodation. The chapel was later replaced by a larger new building and consecrated on July 25th, the feast day of St. James . It is assumed that the festival originated in connection with the consecration of the new church.
