The St. Jacob's Church ( Kościół pw. Św. Jakuba starszego ) is a church on the ring in Ratibor . It originally belonged to the Dominican monastery , which no longer exists.

history

The single-nave, early Gothic building was built in the 13th century (first mentioned in 1285), but had to be rebuilt after a fire in 1637 and was provided with a baroque roof turret. The monastery buildings were demolished after the secularization in the 1820s. The damage caused by the Second World War was repaired from 1945 to 1947.

First sentence in Polish

Polish researchers believe that the first sentence in Polish was written in the former Dominican monastery of Racibórz, at the time when the Mongols attacked Poland in the 12th century and their troops reached Liegnitz . According to speculation, the Polish chronicler Jan Długosz is said to have used the chronicle in which the first Polish sentence appeared to complete his writings.

organ

The organ was built in 1906 by the organ building company Schlag & Söhne from Schweidnitz. The instrument has 16 stops on two manual works and a pedal. The playing and stop actions are pneumatic.
