The Jakobuskirche was a Protestant church in the Mannheim district of Sandhofen . It was built between 1965 and 1969 according to the plans of Wolfgang Handreck .

history

After the Second World War , the number of inhabitants in Sandhofen rose rapidly due to the designation of new building areas. In 1959 the evangelical congregation had more than 8,000 members. For this reason, a parish vicariate was set up on July 1, 1959, and an independent parish was established next to the Trinity parish the following year . In 1965 the own parish hall was completed.

The foundation stone for the church was laid on Reformation Day in 1965, and in April 1969 the inauguration was carried out by the then regional bishop Hans-Wolfgang Heidland . The Mannheim architect Wolfgang Handreck created the plans for the church . The original exposed concrete was covered with a coat of paint during the renovation in 1992.

Due to the consolidation of the Protestant Church in Mannheim, the Trinity Congregation, the Jakobus Church and the Blumenauer Jonagemeinde merged to form the Trinity Church in March 2010 . The Jakobuskirche was given up for parish use. From May 1, 2010, the services took place only in the Trinity Church.

In 1992 the outside facade of the church received five on the north side and a large painting on the south side from the workshop of the Sandhofen artist Willi Wernz. The entrance door was designed in 1995/96 based on a design by Helmut Lander . He refers to the heavenly Jerusalem and the twelve gates.
