Career

James Gallagher attended public schools in his home country and then Pierce Business College from 1891 to 1893 . He then worked in commerce, transportation and banking. Politically, he became a member of the Republican Party .

In the 1942 congressional elections , Gallagher was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded Democrat Leon Sacks on January 3, 1943 . Since he was not confirmed in 1944, he could initially only complete one legislative period in Congress until January 3, 1945 . This was shaped by the events of the Second World War . In 1946 he was re-elected to Congress in the first district of his state. There he replaced William A. Barrett on January 3, 1947 , who had been his successor two years earlier. By January 3, 1949, he completed another legislative period in the House of Representatives, which was determined by the post-war events.

In 1948 James Gallagher was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. After the end of his time in the US House of Representatives, he resumed his previous activities. He died in Philadelphia on December 8, 1957.
