James Demouchette (born May 20, 1955 in Bexar County , Texas , † September 22, 1992 in Huntsville , Texas) was an American criminal and triple murderer who was executed in 1992.

Events

On October 17, 1976, he and his brother raided a Pizza Hut store in Houston after the store closed . He shot dead 19-year-old deputy manager Scott Sorrell and his 20-year-old roommate Robert White. 18-year-old manager Geoff Hambrick was hit in the head but survived his injury and was able to testify against the brothers. Just one day after the crime, James Demouchette's brother confessed to himself and his brother's perpetrators. James Demouchette had been sentenced to prison for burglary and theft in 1974 and was released less than three months before the murders.

While his brother was sentenced to life imprisonment, James received the death sentence in 1977. In 1981, the Texas Court of Appeals overturned the ruling on procedural misconduct because Demouchette was not made aware of his right to remain silent prior to his psychological review. However, after a new trial in April 1983, he was sentenced to death again.

On August 2, 1983, he stabbed 42-year-old Johnny Swift, convicted of murder, on death row in Texas. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for this crime. Until his execution, he was considered the most dangerous inmate on death row. According to prison records, he injured three guards and three inmates, and set his cell on fire twice. In September 1992, he was executed by lethal injection in the Huntsville Unit .
