James Evans (physicist)

James Evans (born September 15, 1948 ) is an American physicist and historian of science .

Evans studied physics at Purdue University , where he received a BS in 1970 and a PhD from the University of Washington in 1983. He is Professor of Physics and Director of the Science, Technology and Society Program at Puget Sound University .

His main research interests are the history of science, especially ancient Greek astronomy, the history of science at the time of the Enlightenment, the history of physics from the 18th to the 20th century, and the history of cosmology from antiquity to the present.

He is Associate Editor of the Journal for the History of Astronomy and was involved in the Antikythera Mechanism Research Project from 2009 .
