James Finlay Weir Johnston
James Finlay Weir Johnston (born September 13, 1796 in Paisley , † September 18, 1855 in Durham ) was a Scottish chemist.
James Johnston, student of Johann Jakob Berzelius , was a professor in Durham from 1833, where he died in 1855. In 1832 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh .
He is the author of the following works:
- Lectures on agricultural chemistry and geology (1842);
- Contributions to scientific agriculture (1849);
- Treatise on experimental agriculture (1849);
- Notes on North America (1851, 2 vols.);
- Chemistry of common life (translated several times into German in 1854, most recently by Dornblüth, 2nd edition, Stuttgart 1887).
