James Gourlay (musician)

James Gourlay (* 1954 in Scotland ) is a Scottish tuba player , conductor and university professor.

James Gourlay is internationally known as a soloist and chamber music virtuoso. His world premieres include a. "Harmonia" by Lachenman and the "Capricco for Solo Tuba" by Krzysztof Penderecki . He has commissioned numerous compositions for tuba. These include works by Joseph Horovitz , Philip Sparke , Rodney Newton and Roger Steptoe . James Gourlay was tubist with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Zurich Opera House for a long time.

James Gourlay has worked as a conductor with the BTM, Brass Band Uri , Brass Band Berner Oberland and Williams Fairey Engineering Band .
