James Henry (lawyer)

James Henry (born 1731 in Accomack County , Colony of Virginia , †  December 9, 1804 in Northumberland County , Virginia ) was an American lawyer and politician . In 1780 he was a delegate for Virginia to the Continental Congress .

After studying law at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and being admitted to the bar, James Henry began working in this profession in Virginia. At the same time he embarked on a political career there. Between 1772 and 1774 he sat in the colonial parliament, the House of Burgesses . He was a member of the Virginia House of Representatives in 1776, 1777, and 1779 . In 1780 he represented his state in the Continental Congress. Between 1782 and 1800 he held various judicial posts in his homeland. James Henry died on December 9, 1804.
