James Landy (1859)

James Landy (born October 13, 1813 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , †  July 25, 1875 there ) was an American politician . Between 1857 and 1859 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

James Landy attended public schools in his home country. He then began to study law, which he ended prematurely and without a degree. Professionally, he worked in retail. In 1845 he became a member of the school committee. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party .

In the congressional elections of 1856 , Landy was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the third constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded William Millward on March 4, 1857 . Since he was not confirmed in 1858, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1859 . This was shaped by the events leading up to the civil war .

In 1862, James Landy was elected Pennsylvania State Highways Commissioner. He died on July 25, 1875 in his hometown of Philadelphia.
