James Lofthouse (pharmacist)
James Lofthouse (* 1842 in Lancaster , Lancashire , † May 21, 1906 ) was a British pharmacist . He was the inventor of the " Fisherman's Friend " lozenges.
Life
Lofthouse opened a pharmacy in the coastal town of Fleetwood in 1865 , which later became the Lofthouse of Fleetwood company . Fischer with various breathing problems were among his customers, for whom he created the famous lozenge - a lozenge because it was easier to transport and ingest than a liquid, for example. The sailors took the medicine from him in large numbers and called them “friends” - hence the later name. The pastilles were only marketed nationwide after his death, through his grandson Tony Lofthouse.
