James Marwick

James Marwick (born January 18, 1862 in Edinburgh , Scotland ; † 1936 ) was a Scottish entrepreneur and founder of Mitchell & Company in New York , which later became part of today's KPMG .

Marwick began his professional career as an accountant in Glasgow and then came to New York via Australia . There he founded the Mitchell & Company together with Roger Mitchell , with whom he had studied at the University of Glasgow . Marwick opened numerous offices across the United States in the years that followed. In 1911 the Marwick, Mitchell, Peat & Company was founded, which later became known as Peat Marwick International (PMI). In 1986, the merger of the audit firms PMI and Klynveld Main Goerdeler (KMG) led to the founding of today's KPMG.
