James McCourt
James "Jim" Vincent McCourt (born January 24, 1944 in Belfast ) is a former Northern Irish boxer .
McCourt was bronze medalist at the 1964 Olympic Games in the lightweight (-60 kg) behind Józef Grudzień , Poland , and Welikton Barannikow , Soviet Union . At the European Championships in 1965 , he also ended up in third place behind these two. In addition, McCourt won in 1966 with a final victory over Aaron Popoola , Ghana , the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 1967 in the light welterweight (-63.5 kg).
McCourt was a master of defense and as such a downright counter-boxer. He fought 496 fights in his career, of which he lost only 15.
