James Montgomery Flagg
James Montgomery Flagg (born June 18, 1877 in Pelham Manor , New York , † May 27, 1960 in New York City ) was an American draftsman and illustrator .
Flagg is said to have published his first drawings at the age of twelve. When he was 14, he worked for Life Magazine ; later also for Judge Magazine . After studying the arts in London and Paris , Flagg returned to the United States and illustrated books and magazines. He made his most famous picture for the US armed forces. The one with "I Want You for US Army" interpretive on the viewer Uncle Sam , ostensibly for the Flagg his own physiognomy is said to have taken as a model, already recruited during the First World War for the soldier's obligation as a patriotic act, was in World War II republished and is still used today. In addition to this, Flagg also drew other posters for the Army, as he also made various other advertising posters and cinema posters . The advertising campaign he directed for In den Fesseln von Shangri-La ( Lost Horizon ) by Frank Capra became particularly well known .
