James Owens (athlete)
James Owens ( James Earl Owens; born July 5, 1955 in Sacramento ) is a former American hurdler who specialized in the 110-meter distance .
At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, he was sixth.
In 1977 he became US champion and NCAA champion starting at the University of California, Los Angeles . He set his personal best of 13.46 s on June 2, 1978 in Eugene .
During his studies he also played American football for the UCLA Bruins . From 1979 to 1984 he played in the National Football League , first for the San Francisco 49ers , then for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers .
