James Quayle Dealey
James Quayle Dealey (born August 13, 1861 in Manchester , † January 22, 1937 in Dallas , Texas ) was an American sociologist and journalist and the tenth president of the American Sociological Association .
When Dealey was nine years old, his family relocated to Texas. After attending school and training as a journalist, Dealey studied languages at Brown University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1890. He then worked as a language teacher, but at the same time studied other languages at Brown University. In the process, under the influence of Lester Frank Ward , he became interested in the social sciences. In 1895 he was awarded a Ph.D. PhD. He then taught first as an assistant professor, then as a professor of sociology at Brown University. In 1928 he retired and joined the Dallas Morning News as an editor , of which his brother was president. He died in 1937 during an editorial conference.
