James Randal Hall

James Randal Hall (* 1958 in Augusta , Georgia ) is an American lawyer and politician .

Life

Hall studied at Augusta College , where he received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in 1979 . He received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Georgia Law School in 1982 . Hall practiced as a lawyer in Augusta from 1982 to 1985 . From 1985 to 1996 he served as the legal advisor and vice president of Bankers First Corporation . He then practiced again as a lawyer in Augusta from 1996 to 2008. During this time he was also a Senator in the Georgia Senate from 2003 to 2004 , where he represented the 22nd electoral district.

On March 19, 2007, President George W. Bush nominated him to serve as a judge on the United States District Court for the southern district of Georgia to fill the vacant seat of Judge Berry Avant Edenfield . He was confirmed by the United States Senate on April 10, 2008 . He was sworn in on April 29 of the same year. Since 2017 he has been the chief judge of this district.
