Berry Avant Edenfield

Berry Avant Edenfield (born August 2, 1934 in Bulloch County , Georgia - † May 9, 2015 in Savannah , Georgia) was an American lawyer and politician .

Life

Edenfield studied at the University of Georgia , where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in 1956 . In 1958 he received a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from the University's Law School . From 1958 to 1978 he practiced as a lawyer in Statesboro , Georgia. Edenfield also served in the Georgia Army National Guard from 1957 to 1963 and was a Senator in the Georgia Senate from 1965 to 1966 .

On September 27, 1978, President Jimmy Carter nominated him to be a judge on the United States District Court for the southern district of Georgia to fill the vacant seat of Judge Alexander A. Lawrence. On October 10, 1978, he was confirmed by the United States Senate. He was sworn in on October 11th. From 1990 to 1997 he was the chief judge of this district. On August 2, 2006, Edenfield reached senior status and went into semi-retirement. His vacant seat has been filled with James Randal Hall .

Edenfield was married. He died on May 9, 2015 as a result of cancer .
