politics

Robertson served as a campaign manager in North East St. Catherine in 1989 and again in North Central Clarendon in 1993 . He is the vice chairman of the JLP for Area Council 2.

He was a senator from 1998 to 2002. In the general election in 2002, he was elected to the House of Representatives as a candidate for the Jamaica Labor Party for the constituency of St. Thomas Western . In the following election on September 3, 2007, he was able to win his constituency. The JLP achieved a parliamentary majority in this election and formed the new government. Robertson was appointed Minister without Portfolio and sworn in as Minister on September 14, 2007. In the cabinet reshuffle on April 6, 2009, Clive Mullings resigned from office and Robertson took over as the new energy and mining minister in his ministry, which had been reduced to telecommunications.

Robertson came under pressure after allegations against him became known in November 2010 that he was involved in attempted incitement to an then-unsuspected murder. The allegations were made by a former JLP party activist as part of his asylum procedure in the United States. Robertson himself denied and described the allegations as baseless, they were not worthy of further comment. Confident that a proper police investigation would determine his innocence, the JLP stood by him. A lawsuit in Florida in the matter was also dismissed by the US court in January 2011. On May 20, 2011, the US government revoked Robertson and his wife's visas for travel to the US without giving any reason , but Robertson suspected a connection to the allegations previously made against him.

He then offered his resignation on May 24, 2011, which Prime Minister Bruce Golding accepted on the same day. Golding took over responsibility for the ministry for a transitional period, until the former minister Clive Mullings took over the energy and mining ministry again on July 1, as part of a cabinet reshuffle at the end of June 2011 . Robertson retained his seat in the House of Representatives and served as JLP vice chairman.
