John Slim (wrestler)
John Percival Slim , according to other sources James Slim , (* 1885 in Wednesbury , † March 14, 1966 in Wandsworth ) was a British wrestler .
life and career
Slim, who for the Hammersmith Amateur Wrestling Club ranking was in 1905 and 1907 British Champion in freestyle wrestling the featherweight class .
In 1908 he represented his country at the Summer Olympics in London . After receiving a walk-through in the first round, he defeated his compatriot Sidney Peake prematurely in the quarterfinals . He did the same in the semifinals against William Tagg , who was also British. In the final, Slim faced the American George Dole . He could not beat this, so he finished the tournament by winning the silver medal.
After the Olympics, Slim ended his career as a wrestler and moved to Germany, where he helped establish boxing . Before the First World War he was a boxing teacher for the princes of the Prussian royal family .
