James Van Trees

James Van Trees (born August 13, 1890 in Oakland , California , † April 11, 1973 in Hollywood , California) was an American cameraman .

Life

Trees was a son of the screenwriter and director Julia Crawford Ivers (1867-1930). He began his career as a cameraman in 1916. Until the late 1940s, he worked exclusively on cinema productions. In the 1930s he worked on several productions with the director Alfred E. Green .

In the 1950s, the focus of his work shifted to television. He was involved in several television series and shows into the 1960s, including The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show (1955-1958) and The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (1959-1963). In 1966 he worked as a cameraman for the last time. In total he participated in more than 180 productions.

From 1923 to 1924 he was President of the American Society of Cinematographers .
