Jamshid Barzegar (born August 20, 1971 in Hamedan , Iran ) is the head of the Farsi editorial team at Deutsche Welle and an Iranian poet , writer and journalist . He has been a journalist since 1991, his first book was published in 1994. His last professional position in Iran was that of editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Hambastegi". He has published four volumes of poetry, dozens of short stories and literary reviews, and hundreds of articles and policy analyzes. He has also made seven documentaries about the life and poetic work of contemporary Iranian poets. He is the brother of the well-known Iranian director and producer Majid Barzegar. Since Jan 2018 he has been working as Farsi editor-in-chief at Deutsche Welle.

Education

From 1990, Barzegar studied political science at the law and political science faculty of the University of Tehran. In 1994 he passed the national entrance examination for admission to the master’s program as the best of his year and graduated in 1997 with the defense of his thesis entitled “The Insufficient Socialization of Politics and the Emergence of Organized, Armed Resistance in Iran; a consideration in the sociology of guerrilla resistance ”. In 2002 he was admitted to the University of Vienna for a doctorate in political science.

From 1991 to 2001 Barzegar worked as an editor, reporter, chief of staff and editor-in-chief for various daily newspapers and publishers, u. a. for “Iran”, “Gozaresh-e Ruz”, “Entekhab”, “Hambastegi”, “Takapou”, “Me'yar” and “Karnameh”. After leaving Iran in 2001, he began working as a political analyst specializing in Iran for the BBC's Persian-language editorial team. In 2008 he went to Prague as the online manager of “Radio Farda”. In this role he designed and implemented the new news website. In 2010 he returned to England as BBC Farsi Online Director. Since 2014 he has been the responsible Iran expert at BBC Farsi. In the course of his work as a journalist, Barzegar has written hundreds of articles and political analyzes, made seven documentaries and numerous large interviews, among others. a. with Simin Behbahani, Mahmoud Dowlatabadi, Siavash Kasrai, Mohammad-Ali Sepanlou, Esmail Khoi, Javad Mojabi and Shams Langeroodi.

Jamshid Barzegar wrote his first poems as a teenager. His first volume of poetry was published in Tehran in 1994. In addition to his activities as a writer and literary critic, he has also been involved in writers' associations. In 1998 he was elected secretary of the Iranian Writers' Association "Kanoon-e Nevisandegan-e Iran" and one year later was accepted into the association's governing body.
