The Jan is a former port of Hamburg barge .
history
The launch was built by Schüler in Uetersen in 1921 and was initially used in the port of Hamburg under the name Irmgard . It was mainly used to transport workers and to maneuver ships and barges .
In 1950 she became the property of the MA Flint shipyard , which she used as a tug and pump ship. In this time the name change from falls Irmgard in Jan . At Flint, the gasoline engine with which the launch was originally equipped was replaced by a 40-hp two-cylinder diesel engine from Jastram . Since then, the maximum speed of the ship has been 6 knots.
In 1981, three private individuals bought the barge. The home port of the ship was still Hamburg. In spring 2019, the owners handed the historic ship over to the Museumshafen Harburg association .

- ↑ There is no mention of this petrol engine in a television report about the handover of the ship to the Harburg Museum Harbor. There it is presented as if the Jan was one of the first launch boats to have a diesel engine instead of a steam drive. See www.sat1regional.de
