Jan Berdyszak (born June 15, 1934 in Zawory ; † September 18, 2014 in Poznan ) was a Polish sculptor, painter, graphic artist, installation artist, set designer, art theorist and teacher.

Berdyszak studied sculpture at the Art Academy in Poznan from 1952 to 1958 and at the same time experimented in the field of painting and graphics. The result was the series Koła podwójne (1962–64 and 1967–69), in which he dealt with the representation of space in painting and graphics. In the late 1960s he turned to new graphic techniques such as lithography and woodcuts in the Kompozycje kół series .

Influences of oriental philosophy and a turn to meditation can be seen in the works of the Obszary koncentrujace series, created between 1973 and 1980 . At the same time, works made of glass and plexiglass were created under the title Przezroczyste . In the 1990s he worked on the Passe-par-tout series using objects, installations, prints and other components.

Since 1965 Berdyszak has taught at the Poznan Art School. In 1990 he became chairman of the program council of the Center for Polish Sculpture in Orońsko and was a member of the program council for the International Graphic Triennial in Krakow. He also designed sets (including for the Marcinek Theater in Poznan) and wrote theoretical writings on the links between theater and the visual arts. A catalog of his works was published in 1974 on the occasion of a retrospective at the National Museum in Cracow. In 1979 Bożena Kowalska wrote a monograph on the artist.
