The Marienburg Castle , and New Castle called, is a baroque palace complex in the district of Ichtershausen the municipality office Wachsenburg in Thuringia Ilm-Kreis .

history

The buildings of Marienburg Castle can look back on 900 years of usage history. They were needed to found the monastery , then served the clergy and after the Reformation became the official and residential seat , i.e. the castle. In 1877, however, they were converted into a prison and operated as a juvenile prison for 200 young people until the summer of 2014 .

Now the three-  hectare facility is to be redesigned, integrating the listed building fabric, into an integrative and cross-generational residential and living project.
