Johann Nepomuk Ebner , since 1839 Knight of Rofenstein (* 8. May 1790 in Imst , Tirol , † 8. July 1876 in Innsbruck ), was an Austrian official and District Chief of Vorarlberg .

Life

Johann Nepomuk Ebner, a son of a district judge from Imst, studied at the University of Landshut with Friedrich Carl von Savigny and Mittermeier. After completing his law studies, he was district commissioner at the regional court in Imst in 1814 and in Schwaz from 1817 to 1821. In the same year he became district chief of Imst, after all from 1822 to 1850 he was district chief of Vorarlberg, based in Bregenz . After that he was governor at the governorate in Innsbruck until 1857. For his services, Johann Nepomuk Ebner was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Austro-Hungarian Empire on August 16, 1838 by Emperor Ferdinand I. Leopold Order awarded. This was associated with the elevation to the hereditary knighthood, this took place on March 30, 1839 with the predicate of Rofenstein . In 1848 he received the title of Councilor.

Ebner von Rofenstein played a key role in the expansion of the Bregenz City Hospital (now the Bregenz Regional Hospital ) and the establishment of savings and health insurance funds for industrial workers. One focus of his tenure was the expansion of roads , such as the Arlberg, Schwarzachtobel and Wälderstrasse inwards from Alberschwende . He was also President of the Agricultural Association .

Johann Nepomuk Ebner von Rofenstein married Johanna Schueller (1801–1856), daughter of the businessman Ignaz. The children were named Robert, Adelheid, Maria and Viktor , histologist and rector of the University of Vienna.

Works

Ebner von Rofenstein wrote a sixteen-volume diary that describes life in Vorarlberg at the beginning of the 19th century at the transition from rural to industrial society.
