Jan Bernd Nordemann (born July 25, 1965 in Berlin ) is a German attorney , specialist lawyer for copyright and media law and, since 2007, honorary professor at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Life

Jan Bernd Nordemann studied law in Berlin , Göttingen and Cambridge . He received his doctorate in 1995 from the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . He had previously completed a postgraduate course in England from 1993 to 1994 at Cambridge University and obtained an LL.M. (Cantab.) Completed. From 1997 to 2019 he worked as a lawyer and partner in the law firm Boehmert & Boehmert. Since January 2020, Jan Bernd Nordemann has been a lawyer and partner at Nordemann Czychowski & Partner Rechtsanwältinnen und Rechtsanwälte mbB in Potsdam and Berlin after his branch was split off. He is regarded as one of the leading copyright and competition lawyers in Germany. His law firm specializes in intellectual property law . Jan Bernd Nordemann comes from a family of lawyers. His father Wilhelm Nordemann is a well-known German copyright specialist who is no longer active. His brother Axel and his sister Anke work in the same law firm and are also counted among the well-known lawyers in the field of intellectual property.

Professional activities

Jan Bernd Nordemann's specialist areas as a lawyer are advice and legal representation in copyright law , trademark law , competition law , antitrust law as well as press law and personal law. As an expert he was a member of the “Internet” working group for the copyright amendment “2. Korbes ” at the Federal Ministry of Justice, Berlin. The European Parliament and the European Commission have consulted him on several occasions as experts on intellectual property. B. on the question of the liability of Internet providers in the event of copyright infringements or on intellectual property and 3D printing. He is an elected member of the specialist committees for copyright and publishing law as well as for cartel law of the German Association for the Protection of Industrial Property and Copyright . In addition, the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) has elected him as chairman of the international "Copyright Committee"; he is a member of the board of the German national group of AIPPI.

Publications

Together with his brother Axel Nordemann and Christian Czychowski , he publishes the commentary on German copyright law "Fromm / Nordemann", which is considered a legal standard work. He is also the co-author of the standard work "Nordemann, Competition Law - Trademark Law". Nordemann was involved as an author in the copyright handbook and in the commentary on competition law Loewenheim / Meessen / Riesenkampff / Kersting / Meyer-Lindemann. Together with Christian Czychowski and Julian Waiblinger , he reports annually in the Neue Juristische Wochenschrift on the latest developments in legislation and case law. Nordemann is one of the regular authors of the Kluwer Copyright Blog, in which he publishes in English on current copyright issues.
