Jan Bogusław Niemczyk

Jan Bogusław Niemczyk (born February 7, 1926 in Kraków ; † December 25, 1990 ) was a Polish Evangelical Lutheran theologian , pastor of the Evangelical Augsburg Church in Poland and professor of Protestant theology at the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw.

Live and act

Niemczyk was the son of Wiktor Niemczyk and his wife Anna, geb. Heczko. He passed his Abitur after the end of the Second World War and then began studying medicine . After a year he switched to Protestant theology at Warsaw University. During his studies he was appointed assistant for exegesis of the Old Testament and teacher of Hebrew . He then continued his studies at the University of Heidelberg . When he returned to Poland in 1958, he wrote his dissertation on "The imitation of God in the Old Testament" in his doctoral supervisor January Szeruda and became a doctor of theology doctorate . When he suddenly died in 1960, he took over his lectures. He also became a member of the Commission for the Translation of the Holy Scriptures , specifically the translations of four books of the Old Testament. Since 1969 he has been a New Testament lecturer and Greek teacher at the same time . In 1981 he was appointed associate professor and since then he has been rector of the Christian Theological Academy in Warsaw, from which he left in 1987.

Like his father Wiktor, Niemczyk was a member of the Christian Peace Conference (CFK). He worked in the 2nd All-Christian Peace Assembly (ACFV) in 1964 and in the V ACFV in 1978 in Prague .
