Jan De Maeyer

Jan De Maeyer (born September 1, 1949 in Bornem , Belgium ) is a Belgian composer and oboist .

Life

Jan De Maeyer studied oboe , chamber music and composition (with Willem Kersters ) at the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Antwerp . At the same time he studied classical philosophy and early history at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven , Belgium . In 1973 he graduated with a diploma in oboe, chamber music and a first prize in music history. He later graduated in English horn , harmony , counterpoint and composition, each with a first prize.

Afterwards he also received international prizes and awards for his works. From 1974 to 1978 he was principal oboist in the Antwerp Philharmonic. He is currently the director of the Municipal Conservatory in Mechelen , Belgium and at the same time lecturer in oboe and cor anglais at the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Antwerp. He is also involved in the woodwind trio Avena , the woodwind quintet Amadea and the Antwerp chamber music ensemble.
