Jan Foudraine (later: Amrito ; * February 25, 1929 ; † February 27, 2016 ) was a Dutch psychiatrist , psychotherapist , mystic and publicist . Foudraine was counted among the pioneers of antipsychiatry internationally .

The doctorate neurologist Foudraine took over in 1968 the management of the psychotherapeutic center Veluweland . In 1971 he published the book Wie is van hout , which was translated into many languages ​​(German: Wer ist aus Holz? - 1973) and published many times. In this book, Foudraine reassessed the concept of schizophrenia and looked at it less from a medical-psychiatric and more from a social-psychiatric-psychotherapeutic perspective.

After the book's success, Foudraine went to Bhagwan Sri Rajneesh in Poona for a long time . Since then he has called himself Amrito . His consideration of psychological problems ( ego concentration and dualism ), which is based on Far Eastern wisdom teachings , he presented in particular in the book Metanoia . In it he mainly referred to the teachings of Jiddu Krishnamurti .
