Jan Peters (born August 14, 1976 in Hamburg ) is a German scientist of computer science , robotics and machine learning .

Life

He is a professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt , where he is head of the Intelligent Autonomous Systems department in the IT department . He is known for his contributions to machine learning for autonomous robotics, in particular to reinforcement learning .

In January 2013 Peters received the Robotics & Automation Early Career Award from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and in August 2013 the International Neural Network Society presented him with the Young Investigator Award. In 2015, Peters received a Starting Grant of 1.4 million euros from the ERC, the most highly endowed EU funding award for young researchers.

In 2019 Jan Peters was named an IEEE Fellow by the IEEE and was the only German researcher to be accepted into the 2019 Class of IEEE RAS Fellows.
