Jan Rzymełka

Jan Antoni Rzymełka (born June 7, 1952 in Katowice ) is a Polish politician of the Platforma Obywatelska ( Civic Platform ).

Rzymełka graduated from the Cracow Mining and Metallurgy Academy in 1976 with a degree in geology . He then studied at the Jagiellonian University from which he received his master's degree in 1978 . At the same time he was active as a lecturer at the Silesian University in Katowice from 1977 . After graduating in Krakow, he returned to Katowice where in 1980 at the Silesian University doctorate . From 1980 he was active in Solidarność and until 1989 he was deputy chairman of the union at the Silesian University and held other functions. Rzymełka was interned on December 13, 1981 when the union was banned and martial law was proclaimed . When he was released six months later, he was working underground for Solidarność. On June 4, 1989, he was elected to the Sejm with 144,559 votes . It was the last election at the end of the People's Republic of Poland in which a real opposition was permitted for the first time . He was also able to win a mandate in the first elections of the Third Polish Republic in 1991 . In 1994 Jan Rzymełka became a member of the Katowice City Council. In the same year he became a member and then deputy chairman of the Sejmik of the Katowice Voivodeship . From 1998 to 2000 he was a member of the Sejmik of the Silesian Voivodeship . Since 1997, the 3rd legislative period, he has been a member of the Sejm again. In February 2002 Jan Rzymełka became a member of Platforma Obywatelska. In the 2005 elections he was elected with 8,878 votes and in the early elections in 2007 with 8,958 votes.

Jan Rzymełka is married and has two children.
