Jan Vahrenhold

Jan Vahrenhold (born April 2, 1973 in Münster ) is a German computer scientist who deals with algorithm engineering and efficient algorithms . He works as a university professor in the mathematics and computer science department of the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster .

Life

Vahrenhold is a former student at the Paulinum grammar school in Münster. From 1992 to 1996 he studied mathematics, computer science, classical philology and educational sciences at the WWU Münster . In 1999 he received his doctorate with Klaus Hinrichs at the WWU Münster with the dissertation External-Memory Algorithms for Geographic Information Systems in the subject of computer science. In 2004 he completed his habilitation in computer science at the University of Münster.

From 2000 to 2006 Vahrenhold worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Computer Science at the University of Münster before he was appointed to a professorship for the basics and communication of computer science at the Technical University of Dortmund . Vahrenhold has been W3 Professor for Practical Computer Science at the WWU Münster since 2012 .

Vahrenhold's research focuses on algorithmic geometry as well as algorithm engineering and resource efficiency. Another area of ​​work is computer science didactics .
