Jan Vlachý

Jan Vlachý (born February 7, 1937 in Plzeň , † September 27, 2010 in Berlin ) was a Czech information scientist ; he is considered one of the co-founders of Scientometry .

Life

Jan Vlachý studied nuclear physics in Prague , but turned to quantitative science research , especially scientometry and bibliometrics , as early as the mid-1960s while working at the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (ČSAV) . Vlachý has published on numerous areas of these scientific disciplines. His works to be highlighted Lotka's Law (Lotka's law) and proof that similar power laws in very different fields of natural sciences, social sciences and humanities apply. From 1967 to 1986 Vlachý was the executive editor of the “Czechoslovak Journal of Physics”. Many of his bibliometric analyzes of physical research were published monthly as short communications in this journal.

In 1989 Jan Vlachý received the Derek John de Solla Price Award from the magazine "Scientometrics" for his services in quantitative science research .

Jan Vlachý's academic papers are in the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium).
