Life

Jan Wielopolski was the son of the castellan and voivod Jan Wielopolski from the noble family of the same name and Zofia Kochanowska. He was initially married to Aniela Febronia Koniecpolska and from 1665 to Konstancja Krystina Komorowska. He married his third wife, Anne de la Grande d'Arquien, in July 1678 in Lemberg .

He was bread master of the Crown (Polish: Stolnik koronny ) from 1664, Starost of Krakow from 1667, Vice Chancellor of the Polish Crown from 1677 and Grand Chancellor from 1678. In addition, he held the office of Starost for Biecz , Bochnia , Nowy Targ and Dolina.

Wielopolski received his training in Cracow and Strasbourg . From 1661 he was a permanent member of the Lesser Poland Province in the Sejm . He supported King John II Casimir , who wanted to introduce a Vivente Rege regulation. This stipulated that the successor of the king would be chosen while he was still alive, instead of after the death of the old king. This would have allowed the king to influence the choice of his successor and thus give him more power.

Wielopolski was Marshal of the Extraordinary Sejm from February 20 to May 1, 1662 in Warsaw . Towards the end of his life he found himself in opposition to the then monarch, Johann III. Sobieski . He was able to skillfully increase the wealth and power of his family throughout his life. His marriage to Konstancja Krystyna Komorowska gave his descendants large estates for the Wielopolski family.
