Jan du Plessis

Jan du Plessis (born January 22, 1954 in Cape Town ) is a South African - British manager .

life and career

After high school in Cape Town, du Plessis studied law and finance at the University of Stellenbosch between 1973 and 1977 and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce . After completing his studies, he worked for the South African Rembrandt Group as an employee; then he moved to the Richemont company . From 1990 to 1995 he worked for the British company Rothmans International , which merged into British American Tobacco in 1999 . Since March 2009 du Plessis has been CEO of the Rio Tinto company and non-executive director of Marks & Spencer .

Du Plessis has taken British citizenship alongside his South African citizenship. He is married with three children and lives with his family in Buckinghamshire . He plays golf and skis .
