Jan van Beekum

Jan van Beekum (born August 16, 1918 in The Hague ; † November 29, 2001 in Dieren , Gelderland ) was a Dutch composer and conductor .

At the age of 11 he played as a clarinetist in various wind bands around The Hague. He studied clarinet , music theory and piano at the Royal Conservatory in his hometown and graduated in 1945.

This was followed by a job as a clarinetist in the Arnhemse Orkest Vereniging (predecessor of the Gelders Orkest ). At the same time he continued his studies as a conductor . As a conductor, he signed up for two orchestras. He also acted as a member of the jury for singing competitions for the Dutch broadcasting company VARA.

As a composer, he created works for various ensembles, study literature and works for wind orchestras.
