Jana Koehler (born October 10, 1963 , officially: Köhler ) is a German-Swiss computer scientist in the field of artificial intelligence . She taught from September 2010 to January 2019 at the Department of Computer Science at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts , was CEO of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) from February to October 2019 and has been Scientific Director of the newly founded research area Algorithmic Business and Production there since November 2019.

Life

Koehler studied computer science and philosophy of science in Berlin. From 1990 to 1993 Koehler worked under Wolfgang Wahlster in the project "Plan-based Help Systems" at the DFKI in Saarbrücken and received his doctorate in 1994 with a dissertation on the "Reuse of plans in deductive planning systems". She stayed as a research assistant at the DFKI until 1996 and was then an assistant at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg until 1999 , where she completed her habilitation with Bernhard Nebel . Koehler then became a project manager at the Swiss elevator manufacturer Schindler AG and was a researcher and manager at IBM Research Zurich in Rüschlikon from 2001 until she was appointed to the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences in 2010 .

Koehler was Professor of Computer Science at the Lucerne School of Information Technology. Her main focus in teaching and research was methods of artificial intelligence and business process management .

On February 1, 2019, she took over the chair for Artificial Intelligence at Saarland University, succeeding her doctoral supervisor, Wolfgang Wahlster .
