Jana Mashonee (born May 11, 1980 ) is an American musician and actress of Native American descent.

Live and act

Jana Mashonee is of Indian descent and belongs to the Lumbee tribe . She studied psychology at Davidson College and earned a bachelor's degree .

Her first single Ooh, Baby, Baby was Billboard Magazine's pop single of the week . More Than Life was her next single, u. a. remixed by DJ Skribble . Her next release was a controversial cover version of Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven , for which she received the Native American Music Award . Her single Found a Love contains u. a. a remix by Schiller .

Her debut album Flash of a Firefly shows her perspective on life, it's a very personal work. On her album American Indian Christmas she sings ten traditional Christmas carols in ten different Indian languages , accompanied by an orchestra and traditional Indian instruments. Her album American Indian Story is an epic adventure and tells the story of the girl Sha'Kona and her tribe as well as her journey to the New World . The album was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2007.

The video from the album won the 2007 Best Domestic Music Video Award at the Queens International Film Festival in New York .

Mashonee also starred in the movie Raptor Ranch .

Jana's Kids Foundation

Mashonee founded the Jana's Kids Foundation and is involved in supporting Indian youth. As part of Mashonee's “Triple A” initiative, the foundation awards grants to people who have talent in the fields of science, sports or the arts.
