Janet Susan Birkmyre (born August 10, 1966 in Worcester ) is a British cyclist .

Athletic career

In her 30s, Janet Birkmyre was having a life crisis. Through her acquaintance with mountain bikers she discovered her joy in cycling. She joined a cycling club in Twickenham and drove first races. She fell the first time she tried to ride a velodrome , her husband persuaded her to keep going.

In 2004, at the age of 38, Janet Birkmyre began competitive cycling. In the same year, she narrowly missed her first medal at national championships and finished fourth. Between 2005 and 2012 she won the overall classification of the British Omnium series eight times , and in 2008 she was also champion in the Derny race.

From 2012 Birkmyare started in Masters competitions. By 2016 she had won a total of 37 titles, 28 European and 53 national titles at world championships in the Masters area on the track. In 2017 she won six more gold medals at European Championships alone. In 2016 she announced that she would compete more often on the road in the future and won silver as a member of a team in the national time trial championship in the same year.
