Life

She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Jerry Zeniuk and at the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art with Werner Liebmann and Katharina Grosse . Gerber paints with oil paint and, since 2015, with Indian ink. “At the moment the paint is applied, the artist becomes the protagonist and the painting surface becomes the place of her action. Every pressure, every rotation or even the finest brush stroke leaves traces on the canvas, almost physical structures or even calligraphic passages that create a rhythm or an inherent tension. "

In 2005 she began installing large-format white and black primed sheets of paper from ceiling to floor. She adds tears or cuts to these. "With the incisions and tears in the surface, the paper experiences a transformation from a two-dimensional symbol carrier to a three-dimensional sculpture, from a closed to an open situation."
