history

The club was founded in 1970 when a bar team formed by fans of 1. SC Göttingen 05 wanted to use municipal sports fields. Since this was not possible for leisure teams, a club was founded. The members did not take themselves very seriously and chose raspberry pink and white as the club colors.

Sparta Göttingen was one of the pioneering clubs in Lower Saxony women's football in the early 1970s. In 1972 the Spartans won the Lower Saxony championship, which was played for the first time . Three more titles were to follow. In addition, the Lower Saxony Cup was won in 1975 and 1976 . In 1974 a German championship was played for the first time. After defeats against SC 07 Bad Neuenahr and Bonner SC , a victory over Wiker SV was achieved at the end of the preliminary round . Two years later , the Spartans achieved their greatest success.

First, the team prevailed against SV Schlierstadt and KBC Duisburg , before the team lost 3-1 after extra time against Tennis Borussia Berlin in the semifinals . The game for third place was won 2-1 against the eventual series champions TSV Siegen . In the following years, the team missed the connection to the top teams and in 1986 was not one of the founding members of the Oberliga Nord . In 2003 he was promoted to the then second-class Regionalliga Nord . Without winning a win, the team had to relegate immediately and has been playing in the fourth-class Oberliga Niedersachsen-Ost since then .

The Göttingen women won the championship there in 2015, but lost the final of the Lower Saxony championship against TV Jahn Delmenhorst 2: 4.

The men's team made it into the Braunschweig regional league for the first time in 1991 . Since the team constantly lost its top performers to other clubs, relegation followed four years later. In the 1994/95 and 2000/01 seasons, the Spartans gave short guest appearances in the Braunschweig regional league . The team returned to the regional league in 2002 and made it through to the Lower Saxony league a year later . The playoff against Blau-Weiß Bornreihe was won 6: 1.

Due to the insolvency of 1. SC Göttingen 05, the club became the sporting number one in the city overnight. In the 2003/04 promotion season, the team immediately finished sixth, but then had to fight relegation. In 2007, the Spartans finally relegated from the Lower Saxony league and two years later missed relegation in the regional league. As runner-up behind FC Grone , the direct re-promotion was missed. In 2011 Sparta was finally district league champion and rose to the Braunschweig regional league and immediately relegated.
