NFV championship

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lower Saxony Football Championship refers to competitions in which the Lower Saxony football champions are played. It is carried out under the supervision of the Lower Saxony Football Association .

Men's

The men's championship has been chosen since 1957. From 1957 to 1964 the champion was determined in a final between the two season winners (West and East) of the second-class (until 1963) and third-class (1964) amateur league Lower Saxony. Between 1965 and 1974 the title went to the champion of the third-class amateur league Lower Saxony. After the introduction of the 2nd Bundesliga, champions of the fourth-class Lower Saxony regional league won for the title from 1975. If there was a tie between the top teams, however, there was a play-off between 1977 and 1978. The runner-up VfB Peine won the Lower Saxony championship title twice. From the 1979/80 season, the regional league was renamed Verbandsliga, whose champions won the title until 1994. Between 1995 and 2010, the champions were played through a final between the champions of the western and eastern seasons of the fifth-rate Lower Saxony league (1995-2008) and upper league Lower Saxony (2009 and 2010). From the 2010/11 season, the Lower Saxony Oberliga will play in a single season, the champions of which are the titleholders.

The record winners are the amateurs from Hannover 96 with 6 titles. Eintracht Braunschweig II won its fifth title in 2013. VfB Peine, SV Atlas Delmenhorst, VfL Herzlake and SV Meppen have won three titles so far. Ten clubs were able to win the championship twice (including VfL Wolfsburg once with the first team and the amateur team), 15 clubs once.

Clubs from what is now the Braunschweig district have won 21 championships so far. Clubs from today's Weser-Ems district won the title 19 times, clubs from today's Hanover district 15 times and clubs from today's Lüneburg district five times.
