Jean Leguay (born August 22, 1955 in Paris ), known as Jano , is a French cartoonist.

life and work

Jean Leguay studied fine arts in Paris for three years. Together with Bertrand Tramber, he created the character Kebra in 1978 , an anthropomorphic rat-like petty criminal from the Paris suburbs. The comics were first published in various magazines and until 1985 in five albums, two of which appeared as Kebra the rat in German at Taschen . He used impressions from a trip to Africa for the two comics with the sailor Keubla . In the album On the Trail of the Bongo , published by Semmel-Verlach , the figure has the name Kebla and experiences various adventures in East Africa. In the other, Keubla meets Kebra . The heroine of his science fiction comic Gazoline et la planète rouge (Eng. Gazoline and the red planet) is also an anthropomorphic figure, a female cheetah.

Jano also published books about his travels, Carnet d'Afrique , Bonjour les Indes (with Ben Radis and Dodo) and Rio de Janeiro

In 2003 the documentary film Rio de Jano by Anna Azevedo and Renata Baldi was released about Jano's trip to Rio de Janeiro in 2000.

Awards

In 1990 he received the Prix ​​du meilleur album at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d'Angoulême for Gazoline et la planète rouge .
