Janus Capital Group was founded in 1969 by Thomas H. Bailey. The company is one of the ten largest investment companies in the United States. The company's headquarters are in Denver , Colorado . Janus Capital Group manages over $ 125 billion in investment assets.
From 1983 to 2000, the company was part of Kansas City Southern Industries .
The company was embroiled in a 2004 financial scandal in the United States involving illegal business practices such as market timing and late trading that shook confidence in the US fund industry. The company suffered billions in outflows and paid damages and fee reductions of around $ 225 million. CEO Mark Whiston was forced to resign. His successor was Steve Scheid.
In 2016 the Janus Capital Group merged with the Henderson Group. The new company Janus Henderson emerged from the merger, which was completed in May 2017 .
