Janus Island is an island in the Palmer Archipelago off the Danco coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located 800 m south of Litchfield Island off the southwest coast of Anvers Island .

The Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey surveyed the island in 1955. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1957 after Janus , the god of the beginning and the end from Roman mythology. The background to this name is the geographical location as the southernmost island on the west side of the entrance to Arthur Harbor .
